If there can be “alternatives” to the proof of science, then how would you like there to be alternative science classes in school. After all, parapsychology must have as much clout as chemistry if it’s a science.

Look, either something is a science or it isn’t. The beautiful thing about science is the proof and the method of devising a reasonable conclusion from reasonable means. If you just pull it out of your a.ss, that’s not science!

Alternative science is relativism at its worst. It's like that guy who said that he was a doctor, although he wasn't, and he always said "Well, to *me*, I am a doctor." Guess what... HE'S NOT! So if you say "Well, to *me* it's science." the same applies!

So what do all of you "alternative" science people think of my proposition that UFOs and whatnot become part of school science curriculum?

I think an elective class would be cool. I took a class in college anthropology for ancient civilizations, UFOs and other unexplained phenomenom. Science is the search for truth based on theories, which have been proven to an extent. Most scientists are very closed minded. That is if they haven't learned it or can't experiment on it then it must not be true. I think a successful scientist should be open minded. Being open minded is what led to all of our current understandings anyway. A class like you are proposing could never be taught as a science class because there is no theory behind it, no proof, no explanation. I think presenting alternative info to students would be good though because it could lead to the next generation discovering something that is currently beyond our realm.

Well, it might be good for a little comic relief. There's nothing like science fiction to get the imagination juices flowing. You have to admit despite the inaneness it is fun.

Education isn't there just to fill in the gaps between meals.
