It is blue due to differential scattering of light from the sun.



Red and yellow light passes through relatively easily, but the blue light gets scattered in the atmosphere more easily, so appears to come from almost all directions.



This also shows nearer the ground with red and amber lights penetrating fog better than other colours.

I think the reflection not of the ocean but of the earth and air cancels all the colors except blue. i think.

i have always been told that it is blue because of the reflection from the sea/ocean......
